Principal's Message

November 23, 2020

Dear Parents and Students:

Welcome to Term 2! We are very excited about how the school year is going so far. Parents and students are engaging in virtual learning, something that is new for everyone. Virtual learning will continue throughout term 2. We are invested in meeting the needs of our students and ensuring that attendance and participation are of the utmost importance.

On Monday, November 30th a few schedule changes will occur. We want to ensure that you are aware of these changes and each student is committed to participating in more levels of engagement and academic support. We need to work together as families and teachers to ensure the success of these efforts. Please take a moment to review our plan below and talk with your child and teacher about the importance of continuing their social and academic development:

What to expect:

  • Term 2 Schedule Changes – Begins November 30th
    • Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday
      • 1:30 to 3:00 – Extended Small Group Instruction Block. Your child’s teacher will inform you of their specific 30 minute small group time. Please note that this block of time will be a combination of live instruction and independent work.
    • Wednesdays
      • 8:30 to 9:15 - Live Morning Meetings from for ALL students.
      • 9:15 to 9:45 - Live Small Group Instruction & Progress Monitoring. Your child’s teacher will inform you of their specific small group time.

How can you help?

  • Ensure that your child is logging on each morning through CANVAS in a timely manner, including on Wednesdays.
  • Ensure that your child is completing all required assignments in a timely manner and engaging in virtual instruction.
  • Encourage your child to reach out to their teacher if they have any questions or concerns or need additional help.

Grades will continue to be assigned based on student participation and completion of assignments. Please ensure that your child is keeping up with their daily assignments and participating in each of their classes throughout the entire day.

While this is not the school year we could have imagined, we are still pushing forward to uphold a learning environment that meets the needs of all of our students. Academic excellence and growth is what we aim to achieve!

Sincerely,

Malaika S. Golden
